Discover Mass

Hold, weigh, compare — grams to kilograms in your kitchen.

Pick up two objects, one in each hand. Which feels heavier? Now weigh them. Sometimes your hands are right — sometimes they're fooled by size.

Type a value, pick units
2.2046

1 kg = 2.2046 lb

Mass vs weight

Mass is how much stuff is in something — it never changes. Weight is the pull of gravity on that mass. On the Moon your weight drops to about a sixth; your mass stays the same.

A bowling ball and a big cushion can have the same mass, but the cushion feels lighter because the mass is spread out. Mass per volume is density.

Your turn

Two bags balance a 1 kg weight together; one bag is 350 g. What's the other?
