Long multiplication

Two-digit × two-digit, broken into single-digit pieces you already know.

The grid (lattice) method

Multiply each digit pair, then add along the diagonals.

A

B

23
1
0·2
0·3
4
0·8
1·2

23 × 14 = 322

The grid (lattice) method

  1. Write the digits of A across the top, B down the side.
  2. Each cell is the single-digit product of its row and column.
  3. Add along the diagonals (right to left, carry as needed) to get the answer.
