Long multiplication
Two-digit × two-digit, broken into single-digit pieces you already know.
The grid (lattice) method
Multiply each digit pair, then add along the diagonals.
A
B
| 2 | 3 | |
| 1 | 0·2 | 0·3 |
| 4 | 0·8 | 1·2 |
23 × 14 = 322
The grid (lattice) method
- Write the digits of A across the top, B down the side.
- Each cell is the single-digit product of its row and column.
- Add along the diagonals (right to left, carry as needed) to get the answer.
